Q:
How do I check if my electric fence is operating correctly?
A: The most reliable method is to use a Digital Volt Meter to test
the fence voltage. If it's over 3,000 volts it will deter most
animals. Remember, voltage on it’s own does not control animals -
it is the energy in the pulse that "shocks" the animal. A
minimum voltage however is needed to make the "shock" jump
from the fence wire or tape to the animal. This minimum voltage
varies from animal to animal depending on thickness of hide, density
of fur, etc.

Q:
If the voltage on my fence is below the required level what do I do?
A: Check that there are no major
shorts on the fence. A short could be a broken insulator causing a
wire to connect with a Steel Post, something fallen onto the fence,
or perhaps a piece of wire has become entangled connecting the live
wires to earth/ground.

Q:
Why does the voltage drop on my fence in the Spring time?
A: Vegetation near the fence grows into the wires and draws energy
from the fence to the ground. This causes the voltage to drop. |
