Q:
What size Energizer do I need?
A: This varies tremendously around the world
- the largest Energizer in the world (SmartPower MX5000) may power
20,000 hectares in outback Australia but only 20 hectares during
lush spring growth in Vermont, USA.
Our recommendation is to get advice from your local
Check your Energizer on the Animal
Control Chart. |

Q:
Do I need a bigger Energizer?
A: You cannot go wrong with having plenty of power behind your
electric fence. It is like Insurance, you may not need it but it
is a comfort to know it is there when required. To test whether
your existing Energizer is overloaded check voltage at the
Energizer - connect your Digital Volt Meter to the Earth and Fence
connections (with the fence still connected). If it is under 4,000
volts your Energizer is overloaded.

Q:
What is happening... my Energizer is putting out excellent
voltage, but the voltage on the fence is lousy?
A: You
are probably suffering from LEADOUT STRANGULATION! This
happens when your leadout wire(s) are too small to deliver all the
power from the Energizer. It's a bit like connecting a massive
water pump to a one inch (25mm) pipe and wondering why you can not
get a decent volume of water to the trough. The solutions is to:
1. Use highly conductive
underground cable
(e.g. Gallagher G627X) throughout your leadout.
2. Use multi-wires, at least 2.5mm (12 gauge) or highly
conductive wire (e.g. Gallagher G617) for your
leadout.
